Happy Valentine's Day! Last night Maddie got her first taste of breast milk - only 5 cc's. And she ate it right up. She is doing so well eating that she has already passed the 7 cc mark and took in 9 cc's tonight. They folks at the NICU plan on increasing the amount 2 cc's every six hours, assuming she continues to tolerate the food. And from the way she acted tonight when her parents visited her, she does love to eat. She was sucking on her pacifier, wishing she could have had more food. The magic number is 50 cc's (2 oz) every 3 hours before she can come home. But she is well on her way.
AN UPDATE: Maddie is up to 21 cc's (on 2/17/09). She continues to go to the bathroom normally, another good sign that all is working well...
